Working together to stop the cold killing older people
The multi-award-winning British Gas Help the Aged Partnership, established in 1999, is widely regarded as a model of excellence within the field of corporate social responsibility.
The Partnership has brought real change to the lives of many older people. Our Benefits Advice Programme has helped older people to claim over £10m of benefits. Our campaigns have brought the scandal of excess winter deaths into the public consciousness and played a key role in making the Government invest £100m in programmes to address this.

'British Gas and Help the Aged have forged a partnership that is benefiting the most vulnerable energy users in the country by delivering practical help straight to their door in a combined drive to help reduce fuel poverty. The dedication and expertise of one of the UK's leading charities combined with British Gas' industry-leading work in targeting assistance for its own vulnerable customers is helping to achieve that goal'.
Phil Bentley, Managing Director, British Gas |
In addition to the positive effects on the lives of older people, our Partnership has delivered tangible business benefits for British Gas. The cut-through, public recognition of the Partnership and media coverage consistently provides PR results with equivalent advertising spend far exceeding the amount invested.

‘The partnership is one of unique strength. Both partners bring to the relationship different skills and expertise, but together it is a union of tremendous potency. The partnership has already helped thousands of vulnerable older people, providing direct help and support to those who need it most. We are literally saving lives – now and in the future.’
