BarclaysYour Money Matters

'Your Money Matters' is a three-year national partnership worth nearly £2 million between Help the Aged and Barclays, aimed at helping older people to manage their finances.

Trained advice workers and Barclays volunteers provide face-to-face financial education and advice to older people on topics such as opening a bank account, Chip & PIN and budgeting.

'There is a serious lack of money management advice addressing the specific needs of older people, leaving some struggling with money matters, particularly in the event of illness or bereavement. Barclays and Help the Aged are responding to this urgent need, offering a tailored solution for older people facing financial difficulties.’

Daniel Pearson, Director of Community Services, Help the Aged

Barclays is also funding an advisor for SeniorLine, the Charity's free and confidential telephone service, who will provide advice on welfare rights to older people and their carers.

Your Money Matters has a strong synergy with Barclays' area of business and provides unique, skill-enhancing employee volunteering opportunities. Together we aim to reach over 130,000 older people and their carers and have a direct and positive impact on their lives.

‘Writing a big cheque has its place, but we aim to make a much bigger impact by encouraging our staff to volunteer in ways that make use of their financial expertise. Through their skills, and this partnership, we aim to make tangible, positive differences in the daily lives of the vulnerable in our community, and also to learn about the challenges they face.’

Alastair Camp, Corporate Responsibility Director, Barclays
