Prudential visit to Hong KongThe Prudential international vounteering programme, The Chairman’s Award, is an innovative three-year fundraising scheme designed to encourage volunteering amongst Prudential’s thousands of staff from across four continents.

Help the Aged is one of only three international charity partners. For every volunteer who takes part in the programme, Help the Aged receives funding from Prudential.

In 2008 Help the Aged provided volunteering opportunities with older people in countries including Thailand, Hong Kong, India, South Korea and the UK. Volunteers took part in activities ranging from renovating the houses of older people to escorting a group of older people to visit the local markets and the Chiang Mai Zoo.

Prudential visit to Hong KongHelp the Aged  are delighted to announce that Help the Aged’s international partner, FOPDEV Thailand, has been  awarded first place in the Prudential Chairman's Award 2008 and will receive an additional £10,000 - well done! Helping Hand Hong Kong, who were also shortlisted for the Chairman awards, have been awarded with a special merit prize of £1,000 in recognition of their excellent work.

The partnership provides Prudential with many business benefits including:

  • a simple, unified corporate responsibility programme across all of its offices worldwide;
  • opportunities for staff to engage in non-work related activities which provide team bonding experiences, build communication and project management skills and teach staff about important issues relating to age and ageing; and
  • the chance to deliver positive long-term projects in the local communities in which Prudential operates and, of course, the positive PR that comes with them.

'It's so wonderful to think that people care about older people. Days like this make you sure there's more to life.'

Mary Mardle, resident of a care home where Prudential volunteers organised a party
